Extend your home in style with an orangery that evokes times past. Once upon a time, these handsome and traditional constructions were built with a logical purpose in mind: to foster the growth of trees, shrubs, and other such plantage.
Orangeries were owned by wealthy families in times gone by. These days, they are no longer the exclusive property of the ridiculously rich. In fact, almost anyone can enjoy the benefits of one of these sophisticated garden rooms, which are of solid construction, feature a dwarf wall around the perimeter, and a decorative lantern in the roof that fills the space below it with light.
An orangery is a great way to increase space, while also improving the value of your home. It is less expensive than an extension and, in terms of durability, will concede less easily to the elements. Expect to enjoy the many benefits of your brand new garden room for many more years to come.
Whatever your design intentions, we can help. Build your dream orangery by discussing your style, feature, and colour scheme ideas with one of our consultants. They’ll make sure your new building enhances the character of your home — adding to its individuality and helping it to stand out from the crowd.

What is an orangery?
It is a room that features expensive brickwork. Often, it will showcase a dwarf wall and pillars that serve to create a cosy traditional feel. The roof adds to this sense of permanence and solidity and is fitted with glass pods or a lantern roof. The remaining walls and central ceiling area are of glass construction.
Some time back, orangeries were used in northern Europe to cultivate lemon, orange, and lime trees to overcome local climate limitations. These days, they are used as a popular alternative to conservatories, creating a light, bright, and energy-efficient space suitable for year-round use.
What is the difference between an orangery and a conservatory?
Conservatories feature more glass, which often runs from floor-to-ceiling. Light is the key objective here, which means these rooms feel bright and spacious. Orangeries, on the other hand, feel more enclosed on account of the extensive masonry used in their construction.
This means that an orangery won’t heat up as much as its conservatory cousin during warmer weather. As a result, it’s ideal for year-round living and entertaining. Orangeries feel and behave like house extensions, whereas conservatories serve as seamless transition points linking your interior and exterior areas. That said, you can modernise an orangery by adding more glass and make a conservatory cosier by adding a tiled roof.
Is an orangery warmer than a conservatory?
Because an orangery is solid in its construction, it retains more heat than a conservatory. But this is only a general rule. The windows, doors, glazing, and materials used will all play a part.
Every product we manufacture is built with thermal efficiency in mind. So you can choose us with total peace of mind, knowing comfort and energy savings will come as standard once we’ve completed our work.
Is an orangery cheaper than an extension?
Orangeries sit somewhere in the middle in terms of their price point. They cost more than a conservatory but less than an extension (yet still create that essential house extension feel). If you want a bright, positive space to link your home and garden, contact us for more information about our orangeries.
