A wide range of eye-catching designs and colours are available too. Why not add a wood finish or classic white look to your home, so that it stands out from the crowd. Let the sun in and fill your home with space-creating light!
If you can’t tell a bay window apart from a bow one, here’s how: the first of these comprises traditional 45-degree angles and has three straight sides. You’ll be able to control which windows can be opened – with the others adding purely aesthetic value.
Bow windows aren’t dramatically different from their bay cousins. The key difference is that the windows aren’t at such contrasting angles. Rather, multiple small window frames form a continuous arc – or bow – shape that adds a touch of sophistication to the outside of the home in question.

What’s the best way to hang curtains in a bay or bow window?
A bow or bay window is bound to enhance the look of your home. But how will you be able to close your curtains when the sun goes down? Hanging curtains is not as easy as with a conventional window – but, if you use the right fittings, it shouldn’t be too hard.
If your bay window comprises three sections, you’ll need some specific rods that permit the curtain to be pulled all the way around. The hooks in your curtains will feature gaps, through which the rod attachment can be fed. It’s also possible to get bendable rods, which are ideal for bow windows.
How many sides are there in a bay window?
A traditional bay window will feature three sides, which are set apart from the wall. One will project outwards; the other two will sit at a 45-degree angle to the wall. This classic design is arguably the most popular. It’s often a feature of older properties throughout the UK.
You may have also heard of box windows. Shaped rectangularly, they sit away from the house, the windows sitting at 95-degree angles. This provides enough room to fit some chairs – or even a table.
Which of these is best? We’re here to help, so why not call us and pick our brains.
Can you open bow and bay windows?
The purpose of bow and bay windows is to maximise space and light penetration within your property. A typical bay window will feature three panels, and you can choose which ones should open.
Smaller and slimmer in design, bow windows showcase a curved appearance, which means they may not all open. Of course, it’s possible to design your own bow windows and we’d love to help with your project.
Will a new bay or bow window add value to my home?
By improving the external appearance of your property, you’ll undoubtedly improve its value – while also making it a lighter, brighter, and more spacious place to live. The extra space you gain could be used in a variety of ways – as a play area for the kids or a nook for sitting in while reading a book.
All that extra space will invite more light in, regardless of the direction in which your windows face. You’ll also enjoy a better view of the outdoors. Although more expensive than conventional double glazing, bow or bay windows include a range of benefits- including adding value to your home – that outweigh their cost.
How can I tell a bow window apart from a bay window?
It’s not hard to tell one apart from the other once the differing characteristics of each have been explained. A bay window is described by three unique windows, which converge at different angles beyond the external part of a wall.
Bow windows, on the other hand, are broader in design and exhibit a curved appearance.
As you can see, each style comes with its own set of appealing attributes. Call us now for more information. We’d love to help you with your project.
How can I use my new bay window?
Take advantage of all that extra space you’ve created. Turn it into a cosy seating area where you can relax, while enjoying a better view. Perhaps add some cushions or use your new area to store some books – or, if you have animals, create a pet corner. It’s entirely up to you.
