Carefully crafted at our family-run premises in picturesque Warminster
Add a touch of elegance to your home with stylish casement windows, which are sure to catch the attention of anyone who comes to visit. This versatile double glazing attaches to the frame of a window via hinges on the side. It can be opened outwards or inwards, depending on your preference, or have the hinges at the top or bottom.
Top hung versus side hung
With a top-hung casement window, the hinges are located at the top but the unit opens at the bottom. This is ideal if you want to ventilate a room without letting in the rain. Side hung units are good at capturing passing breezes – as they can be easily angled to direct fresh air into your home.

But what exactly is a casement window?
As touched upon earlier, there are different types. In general terms, this type of window fixes to the frame via hinges located to the side. This creates a wide swing angle, like a door. Casement windows can be installed singly or in pairs. We can talk you through this option.
In most cases, this type of window will be fitted using a side hinge. But you could ask us to top hang your casement window instead. This option is ideal if you want to prevent the ingress of rain while still ventilating your home.
Is a casement window the same as a picture window?
Because it’s fitted to the frame via a hinge, a casement window can swing open. This means it excels at inviting lots of fresh air into a property. In contrast, a picture window only provides aesthetic value – as it cannot open and acts purely as a viewing point.
Another key difference is size. A picture window often comprises a large singular pane to ensure maximum light penetration and a rewarding view. Casement windows, by contrast, are much smaller and are made up of smaller sashes.
How much should I expect to pay for casement windows?
The price will vary, depending on how you customise your installation. This makes it hard to provide an exact estimate. For example, the material you choose, estimated fitting time, and other factors, will all contribute to the overall costs. Replacing an existing window using an existing frame would, for example, be less expensive than starting from scratch entirely.
uPVC is cheaper in terms of material costs. Expect the price to rise if you opt for a slicker finish or decide you want timber or aluminium double glazing. The best way to get a clearer idea of price is to call our team for a free quote.
Are casement windows more energy efficient?
When closed, a casement window is fully sealed. This is because the sash presses against the frame, creating a protective seal. This prevents cold air from penetrating – while, at the same time, preventing heat from escaping. The end result? A warmer, more comfortable home that’s less expensive to run.
If you want to make your units more energy efficient, then we would recommend double or triple glazing them. This will have the additional effect blocking out noise, an essential feature if you live in a built-up area. If you live in a very noisy area, talk to us about our Stadip Silence window laminate, which has amazing noise-cancellation properties.
Are casement windows secure or not?
Keeping your home safe from intruders is your first priority. Casement windows are equipped with special hook-shaped locks that fit into the frame. This is extremely hard to break from the outside.
An unwanted ‘guest’ may attempt to pry your window open, but the resilient design of our products makes this almost impossible. That’s without mentioning the multi-locking system, which adds an extra level of security.
For your further reassurance, every unit we install bears the kitemark. This means it’s extremely damage resistant and includes the latest technology and hardware – so your loved ones will be protected all year round.
Are casement windows worth it?
We would highly recommend getting them fitted. Imagine filling your home with more light and air – so that it feels fresh and bright. At the same time, the rooms in your property will be warm and cosy – thanks to the tight seal that blocks chilly air from entering (and stops your energy costs rising).
Another benefit is that casement windows are really easy to use. This is thanks to a clever crank mechanism, which allows the unit to be operated using just one hand (making it an ideal choice for anyone with mobility issues).
