How do patio doors slide open?

It takes very little effort to operate a sliding patio door, which remains fully secure when closed. To open yours, simply turn the handle a few degrees to release the mechanism and slide the door back as far as desired. The system moves on rollers, making it easier to move back and forth, regardless of how big the installation is.

We will make sure your installer gives you a full demonstration, so you know exactly how to use your patio doors.

What is a lift and slide patio door?

Lift and slide patio doors are operated using a different mechanism to standard patio doors. A standard version will move vertically along a track. Contrastingly, a lift and slide model deviates from the track when closed, securing it into position. If you want to open your door again, no problem. Turn the handle and lift the door a fraction to align it with the track, at which point it can be rolled open.

Important: the door can be lowered off the track at any point if you want to secure the door at a certain point.

Can sliding patio doors be broken into easily?

It’s no secret that sliding patio doors are mostly glass. Despite this, they are very secure. Double and triple glazing is very hard to damage and we always fit thermally toughened glazing for doors and windows less than 800mm from floor height. That way, you can enjoy additional peace of mind.

We only invest in the very best locking technology, which means you can rely on our exterior doors to provide fantastic protection. Our patio doors in fact meet the precise criteria of the UK police-led Secured by Design initiative, which was created with the aim of driving down burglary levels countrywide.

If you’re keen to discuss ways of making your home safer, we would love to help you achieve that. Contact us now for more information and a free estimate.

What width is a two-panel sliding glass door?

Before buying sliding patio doors, you’ll need to figure out the opening width you’ll need. Sliding doors can be fitted in both large and small properties, as they don’t swing out like bi-fold doors. That said, only half of the door can be opened.

The normal size of a sliding door is approximately 1.8m (6ft). This equates to an opening or exactly 90cm (3ft) out to your garden. Our doors can be made to order, so you can choose whatever dimensions you need.

No matter what the challenge, contact us for more information and a free quote so that we can discuss the different options available.

How thermally efficient are patio doors?

The energy efficiency of a patio door will depend on the quality of the materials, the installer, and a range of other factors. Aim for a double or triple glazed frame with a well-known and effective locking system. uPVC, aluminium, or timber frames can be just as thermally efficient as one another if you choose a high-quality product.

Look for A-rated glass and check out the overall U-value of your proposed patio door first. The lower the score, the less heat will escape. This will result in a warmer home that’s cost-effective to heat and a comfortable place to spend time in.

How much will a patio door cost me?

As with anything, the price will alter based on a range of factors. What size door do you want? What colours and finishes are required? What materials have you decided on and which locking mechanisms? Glass will also influence the overall cost of your new doors.

Whatever your budget, we’ll have a patio door to match. Choose with confidence, knowing our products are built to last and fitted by industry experts.

Energy saving is incredibly important and so is keeping your fuel bills down. We are continuously looking for ways to make our homes energy efficient and one way is to choose new PVCu windows and doors. Not only will they help to keep your home warmer, they will reduce your energy loss.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Our suppliers conform to strictly controlled and independently monitored Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, to ensure that everything is done correctly and according to best practise.

Our windows are tested independently by British Standards for security, weather tightness and strength performance. This means that periodically, we have to send them to independent test houses, in order to be tested to destruction.

These are just some of the many standards the products in our vast range conform to. Needless to say we take the quality of our products very seriously indeed.
