Are composite doors worth getting?

Invest in one of our strong and stylish composite doors to make your home thermally efficient and more secure. You can tailor the design of your doors to reflect your tastes too.

Composite doors are made in hot environments using high-pressure methods. It’s this process that makes each of our doors strong and weather-resistant. This is an important factor to consider, as it means your installation will withstand damage caused by rain and wind – and, just as importantly, deliberate assaults caused by vandals or intruders.

Are composite doors less expensive than uPVC?

uPVC doors are thinner, require less material, and are simpler and cheaper to produce. This means you’ll pay less for a uPVC front door. However, it’s important to focus on more than just cost. Composite doors last longer, so you won’t have to replace yours for a very long time – if ever.

Look at the bottom of a composite door and you’ll notice a brush. This stops warm air from escaping while preventing cold draughts from coming in. This has the overall effect of making your home more thermally efficient, in turn reducing the size of your energy bills. So, uPVC doors are cheaper in terms of the initial outlay, but front doors will pay dividends in the longer-term.

What material is best for a front door?

Timber doors. These come in a wide range of finishes and will lend your home a timeless and charming look that’s bound to enhance its character. Wooden doors can be adapted to suit doorways of all configurations and sizes. But they can be prone to weather damage, so you’ll need to invest time maintaining yours to ensure its immaculate appearance.

Composite doors. These are made from a mixture of materials that are fused together to create one of the strongest front doors on the market. We use a special kind of foam that both strengthens and insulates your home.

uPVC Panel doors. Cheaper than composite or timber, uPVC panel doors are a great choice if you’re looking to personalise your front door. They come in a wide variety of different colours, finishes and glazing options, so let your creativity run wild!

How long will my composite front door last?

You might be surprised to learn that, in general terms, a composite door can last 30-40 years. But this figure can be increased by following a simple set of rules. By oiling your hinges, and wiping your composite door down with a damp cloth, you can comfortably double its lifespan and ensure long-term performance.

What does the term ‘composite door’ mean?

A composite door is made using a range of high-quality materials that are mixed together. It’s precisely this factor that makes it stronger and more durable than most other door styles available in today’s market.

Materials used to create a composite door include foam, uPVC, and reinforced glazing.

Optional extras include specially weather-protected hinges and advanced locking systems that improve security.

What factors should I consider when buying a front door?

There is a lot to think about when purchasing a new composite door. If aesthetics matter to you, then finding a door with a stylish appearance is important. You may, therefore, opt for wooden doors that exude classic charm or a composite style made using your preferred colour and style.

Security, thermal efficiency and durability will also be important. A door made using uPVC will cost less but will need replacing sooner than its composite cousin. For the strongest door, composite is your best option.
