Originally created to house citrus trees during the winter months, orangeries have developed over time to become the sophisticated home extension we know today.
Similar to conservatories, orangeries have a solid construction, featuring dwarf walls that run around the perimeter of the building framed with an elegant lantern roof which opens up the room to both natural light and stunning surrounding views. What is an orangery?
Originating in Italy, orangeries were historically a symbol of luxury and wealth, seamlessly combining the outdoors and indoors to create a habitat suitable for cultivating citrus trees. Today, orangeries are used as a popular alternative to conservatories, recognised as an extension featuring extensive brickwork and beautifully structured glass to create an open and bright living space.
How much are orangeries?
Due to the extensive range of sizes and customisation options available for our orangeries, we are unable to provide a general price estimate without considering how these various factors impact your property.
What is the difference between an orangery and a conservatory?
Typically, conservatories can be distinguished from orangeries due to the excessive amount of glass used in their construction which allows you to feel seamlessly connected to the outdoors. Orangeries on the other hand tend to be more solid structures, particularly in the roof, reminiscent more of a house extension.
However, it is important to consider that orangeries can be designed to feature more glass in the same way conservatories can be customised with a tiled roof for a more enclosed appeal.
Is an orangery warmer than a conservatory?
As an orangery is designed to be a solid construction, it automatically retains more heat than a traditional conservatory would. However, a building’s thermal efficiency will ultimately depend on the materials, glazing, windows and doors used in its construction.
To ensure you get the most from your investment, our products are manufactured with thermal efficiency in mind, so you can rest assured that your property will remain comfortable all year long.

We used this company for replacement doors a few years ago and have now used them to replace some windows. Excellent company with very friendly staff. So happy with the the new windows and were kept informed every step along the way. Thank you 😊
Karen Smith
Very pleased with the whole process. Team were professional and friendly and the team that did the installations were great and did an amazing job, we have a lot of stuff and they took everything in their stride. Love the quality of windows and doors which were much better than the ones they replaced.
Nick Davis
Excellent, very, very pleased. The guys that came to fit my window were pleasant, competent and cleared up all the inevitable mess afterwards. They even put a cloth down to protect the carpets. Highly recommended.

We used New Windows for replacing a few windows and doors for my elderly Mum’s property. We have been repeat customers due to this company’s friendly staff, quality of the windows and workmanship and friendliness of the window fitters (who were great with my Mum). We would definitely recommend New Windows.
